About Us
Sasha Matkevich - Head Chef and Owner
Sasha developed a passion for all things culinary at an early age, growing up in Southern Russia. He was inspired by his grandmother’s cooking and the wealth of ingredients available in the foothills of the Caucasus mountains.
Having emigrated to England in the mid 1990s Sasha was very fortunate to train under some of the most innovative and established chefs in London, including Philip Britten at the Capital Hotel and Stefano Cavallini at the Halkin. On moving to Somerset Sasha joined Adam Fellows at another Michelin-starred restaurant, Charlton House in Shepton Mallet. His last venture was the Devonshire Arms, Long Sutton, where his creative and distinctive dishes attracted a loyal following.
Sasha creates classical dishes with a modern twist using local, seasonal and unusual ingredients for their flavours and textures. He has now brought his unique and popular style of cooking for you to enjoy at The Green.
